Experience Required

All kayakers should have previous paddling experience. Our trips will be in the North Sea. All paddlers should feel comfortable with wet exits from closed cockpit kayaks in the event of capsize. All paddlers should be capable of getting back into their kayak after capsizing.

Paddling distances will range between 6 to 10 miles on any given day. All kayaking will be day trips. We plan to kayak at least 6 days, weather permitting.

The North Sea demands a lot of respect. Your safety is our utmost concern. If we have good weather we kayak. If we have bad weather (and unacceptable risk) for kayaking we will tour by bus and hike.

It is possible we may never get in a kayak if the weather is against us. However, July's weather should give us plenty of time for kayaking.

Padding Trips
Some paddling day trips, from north to south will be:

Our aim is to paddle to places of natural beauty and places of historical interest. Many of the places we'll paddle to are in the National Nature Reserve (that's British talk for natural wildlife preserve), a sanctuary for wildlife including many types of birds and marine life.

Northumbria has been occupied since the Stone Age so there's lots of history from various occupying groups - Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Celts, to name a few.
